Programs

Bunka Fashion College organizes its departments in such a way that students can study the specialist professions they need in order to be successful in the fashion industry.

Fashion Creation Department

Study clothesmaking from the basics to advanced and gain a comprehensive understanding of the fashion industry overall.

In the fashion industry, where many different professional fields interconnect, as well as a high level of technical skill, it is also important to have a broad perspective, in order to be able to see fashion as a whole.
The Garment Creation course has a two-year curriculum in which the student covers garment creation comprehensively. Students may then go on to an intensive garment creation course when they will learn advanced professional skills. The Intensive Garment Creation Course is specially for graduates of Colleges of technology (kōsen, five-year programme), junior colleges, or universities and will take students from fashion basics through to practical application in a year.

Career paths

As this course covers fashion very comprehensively, it is possible to find jobs in a wide range of fields, such as design, planning, patterning, production-related, and sales positions.

Fashion Technology Department

Accumulate the knowledge and skills of garment creation as a product and become a specialist in planning and production

In the apparel industry, which mass-produces clothes as “products,” specialists with high levels of expertise in every process, such as marketing, planning, design, and production, are required.
The four-year Creative Design (Advanced Diploma) develops the human talent who will be leaders in the apparel industry. The three-year courses are designed to provide the student with a broad range of fundamental knowledge and skills, allowing them to then pursue expertise in a chosen profession.

Career paths

This course, which nurtures specialists who can be successful in each field of the apparel industry, is focused on paths that lead to professional careers, such as designers, planners, merchandisers and patterners.

Fashion Marketing and Distribution Department

For those who aim to be specialists active in the fashion distribution industry, and wish to hone their professional skills.

In the process of “distribution” that connects fashion with its customers, there is a variety of specialists who sell fashion and convey its appeal.
In the four-year Fashion Marketing and Distribution (Advanced Diploma) course, we aim to nurture the kind of human talent who will have the ability to create new fashion businesses, with the aim of playing a global role. In the two-year Foundations of Styling and Distribution course, students will first master the basics before going on to pursue specialist disciplines, and there is an extra one-year advanced course available after the specialist course.

Career paths

In addition to professional roles such as stylists, make-up artists and models, it is also possible to start from sales positions and advance to careers in purchasing and the media. Our wish is for our students to be work-ready and play an active role in the distribution field.

Fashion Accessories and Textiles Department

Become a professional in textiles, which are essential to the expression of fashion, and in fashion goods and accessories.

Textiles, which are the foundation of fashion expression, and fashion goods and accessories, which provide the decorative detail, are both very important elements in fashion, and they too require specialists.
In the three-year Fashion Textiles Course, students will study specialist textile skills. The four disciplines of millinery, jewelry, bags and footwear designs have been reorganized into a two-year course that aims to train up fashion goods designers, starting from fiscal 2020.
Students will systematically cover specialist knowledge and skills in each of these disciplines, and once they graduate from the two-year course, there is a newly established further one-year specialist course in which they can continue their studies.

Career paths

With the Fashion Textiles course, it is possible to find positions not only in textile related work, but also as designers in the apparel industry. In each of the fashion goods courses, students will learn the professional knowledge and skills that will enable them to be successful in the millinery, jewelry, bags and footwear industries.
